Day 1: Arrival in Akagera National Park
I got the services of African Safari Company and as I entered africa Akagera National Park, Rwanda, a sense of excitement filled the air. Known for its remarkable biodiversity, the park is a haven for bird enthusiasts, offering a unique opportunity to discover a diverse array of avian species in their natural habitats.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by knowledgeable guides who shared their passion for birding and provided an overview of the park’s avian inhabitants. Equipped with binoculars, field guides, and an eagerness to explore, I embarked on an adventure that promised to be a symphony of birding delights.
Day 2: Exploring the Wetlands
The day began with a visit to the park’s picturesque wetlands—a haven for water-loving bird species. As we meandered through the reeds and marshes, a vibrant tapestry of colors emerged before our eyes. The air was filled with the melodic calls and chirps of countless bird species.
With the guidance of our Rwanda Safari guide we spotted a variety of waterfowl, including elegant African fish eagles, graceful herons, striking black-headed gonoleks, and darting malachite kingfishers. Each sighting brought a sense of awe and appreciation for the incredible diversity of birdlife Akagera National Park.
Day 3: Journeying through the Savannahs and Woodlands
Today, we ventured into the expansive savannahs and woodlands of Akagera National Park, where a different cast of avian characters awaited us. The open grasslands and scattered trees provided the perfect backdrop for bird watching.
As we trekked through the park, our guide pointed out various species, including the striking lilac-breasted roller, the regal crowned crane, the elusive shoebill stork, and the colorful bee-eaters. Each sighting was a testament to the park’s commitment to conservation and the preservation of these incredible bird species.
Day 4: Birding Highlights and Reflection
On our final day of Rwanda safari in Akagera National Park, we reflected on the incredible moments and sightings we had experienced. The park had truly exceeded our expectations, offering a diverse range of habitats and an impressive avian population.
